Helplessness

It is a red haze
It spurns and aches
Like hunger and thirst
Like agony raking your body

It is a yellow haze
It blinds and overwhelms
Like miles of desert sand
Lost in between and sinking

It is a green haze
Wide-eyed and open-mouthed
Like twisted bunches
Of vines and thorns

It is a blue haze
It restrains and pulls back
Like the wide expanse of the sky
Seems untrammelled, but binds you tightly

It is a violet haze
It throws its long shadow on you
Like the dark and moody
Like the overbearingly protective

It is a black haze
It clasps you eerily
Like murderous fingers on a throat
Like dark thunderclouds over a broken heart

It is a white haze
It pushes you into a corner
It tilts your head down; and brings
To your eyes a bright, stark reality.
